This workshop will offer a safe space to reflect on your childhood, however supported or unsupported it may have been.
It will guide you to be curious about how your adult life today is influenced, and sometimes sabotaged, by those experiences.
One of the biggest misconceptions in “inner child” and personal development work is that trauma must be a big catastrophic event. Not necessarily.
The Holistic Psychologist, Dr. Nicole Pera explains childhood trauma as the following circumstances:
* A parent denying your reality
* Not being seen or heard
* A parent vicariously living through a child
* Being told you can't experience certain emotions
* A parent who overcompensated from what was missing in their childhood
* A parent who focuses on appearance
* A parent who cannot emotionally regulate
Trauma, big or small, can lead to the following behaviors:
People pleasing
Fear of abandonment
Chronic apologizing
Survival mode: hyper-vigilant nervous system responses
Betrayal of own needs
Unconscious desire to fix, save, rescue / or be chosen
Living as a false self
Yes, we can heal and rewire our brains and nervous system to feel safe and calm.
As we endure these events and behaviors in excess, we can develop what is called "The Trauma Brain.”
The Trauma Brain functions as a result of repeat experiences that have wired our brain and nervous system to operate at a heightened "fight or flight" state.
These are symptoms of a trauma brain:
* Obsessive desire to be chosen by new romantic partners
* Chronic social anxiety of how you will be perceived
* Need for constant distraction from the present moment through substance abuse, social media scrolling, love/sex or chronic daydreaming
* Ego stories of judgment and competition
* Lack of self-trust that leads to procrastination and self-sabotage shame cycles
If this resonates for you, or you recognize these behavior with others, understand this is a real condition that affects our world view due to repeat events and responses.
