A new exhibit in the Bankhead Gallery, “Go Figure,” will celebrate the tremendous diversity of spirit, style, and emotion expressed in the human figure through the eyes of 26 artists. Nearly 50 works will feature styles from abstract to realism and include both two-and three-dimensional pieces. A concurrent exhibit in the Founders Room, adjacent to the Bankhead lobby, will feature works from E. Trent Thompson’s “Pictures for People” project. The “Go Figure” exhibit is free of charge and will be open to the public from May 8 through July 8, 2019. A free Artists’ Reception will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 1:00 to 3:00pm, providing an opportunity to admire the works and meet some of the artists. Refreshments will be offered at the event, as well as live music by the Gibbard family string quartet.
One of the artists exhibiting in “Go Figure,” Judith Kunzlé has focused for many years on the representation of movement and body language. She lived for 30 years in the South Pacific where she found many inspirations for her work. Kunzle has said, “My work is a dialogue with the subject. I draw and paint nature in plein air, work with live models or with dancers in action. [Whether] it’s a person or an oak tree, their presence, form and movement are my inspiration.”
A concurrent exhibit in the Founders Room will feature six original works by E. Trent Thompson from “Pictures for People.” The goal of his project is to call attention to the needs of our community through portraits of individuals we walk by every day. Each painting was designated for a specific cause and was offered at auction this March during an event at Range Life restaurant to raise money for a community organization supporting that cause. The paintings are on loan for this exhibit, although some originals and prints will be for sale at the reception.
The Bankhead Gallery, located in the lobby of the theater at 2400 First Street in Livermore, is open Monday through Wednesday, as well as Sundays from 12 noon to 5:00 pm. and by appointment. In addition to the reception, the works will be highlighted for the Art & Wine Intertwined on June 29
